The St. George Medal Program

January 25, 2009

St. George Orthodox emblem has been developed by the Eastern Orthodox Committee on Scouting to help young people of the Orthodox faith to advance in the knowledge and practice of Orthodox Christian religious living.

Its purpose is to help the child become more aware of God’s presence in his or her daily life, especially through things we do in our home and in our church.  The St. George program encourages close cooperation between the family and the church by utilizing parents or guardians and the parish priest as counselors.

The  St. George Orthodox Medal Service Book  is one of the cornerstones of the religious programs for young Orthodox Christians who are active in the Scouting programs in the United States.

George Anastos, am member of our church and a Cub Scout from the Wolf den, Pack 340 of Monroe, NY, successfully completed this book, answering many questions about the Eastern Orthodox Church, as well as church holidays and various symbols in our church.   George met with Fr. Ambrose to discuss the various areas of the “Service Book”.  He also worked with his parents by reading the Bible every night and learning about the different aspects of the church.   In addition, George participated in a community project by helping to organize a clothing drive.

If your son or daughter is a scout and would like to learn more about this achievement, please contact Tina Anastos at 845-781-5038.
